Bizarre Monitor Fault from Hardwareversand

Having had great success with Hardwareversand before for my own PC I've just gotten one delivered for work.

Case and components are fine, but the monitor is boned. When I took it out of the packaging it had what I thought was a protective layer on the screen, and it looked like someone had started peeling it off from one corner already, with fingerprints visible all over that corner. The screen underneath has a couple of tiny little spots where it looked like something sharp had scraped the surface, revealing a coppery sort of surface.

I started peeling off the rest of the 'protective layer' but it only got halfway and then tore off. Suddenly suspicious at how hard it was to peel, I powered up and plugged in and lo and behold it seems like someone had started peeling off the bloody polarising layer before it got into my hands. Half the screen is bright white with no detail, but if I press the peeled layer up against it you can see the desktop beneath it.

I got an assembled PC from custom components so obviously they had to open up everything else, but why on Earth would they have interfered with the monitor? Does anyone have any insights? I'm so confused and annoyed. I've emailed customer service but their English is usually terrible.

If they're more trouble than they're worth, does anyone know what it might cost to get the polarising layer on an ASUS MX239H replaced in Dublin? Might be easier than shipping the God damn thing back to Germany.

It didnt say "SALE:" or similar in front of the model name in the item title did it? Sounds like you got B-Stock or a return.

Their customer service is usually fair and their English not too bad either... not sure where you will encounter problems with them, it's a fairly straightforward issue you have?

No, but I did ask in my email if it was a returned product.

They're friendly enough but I had someone with terrible English before (which surprised me given that any other Germans I've met had near perfect English). I'm still waiting for a reply, I'm just a little nervous about it considering that I made the problem worse by peeling it off further. I wish I had realised as soon as I opened it that it wasn't a protective layer and could show them photos of exactly the state it arrived in - not to mention that warning bells should have gone off the moment I realised it had been opened already (though I got them to assemble the new machine so everything else had been opened up already, it didn't occur to me that they'd have had no reason to touch the monitor).

Anyway thank you for the replies, I'm feeling a little better about this. I'll post an update when it is resolved.

    From a review at http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A4K9KVG
BUT THERE IS NOT A PROTECTIVE PLASTIC FILM ON THE SCREEN, ALTHOUGH IT LOOGS LIKE THERE IS!! SO DONT ATEMPT TO PEAL ANYTHING OGG THE SCREEN!! THE REST OF THE MONITOR HAS A PEEL AWAY FILM . BUT NOT THE MONITOR, EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE IT!
Seems you may not be the only one.

Some SonyMobile phones have the same deal. The last layer of laminate which you are NOT meant to remove looks like a shipping film. Something to be careful of with any bezel-less device.

That's interesting! Mine came partially pre-peeled however, regardless of what came after.
