    One of the options for GLAS is to hold Galway sheep. I think you would get approx €20 per ewe if you do. (€200 per LU per year where a ewe lamb is .1LU
    )
    But you need to joing the galway sheep societ and register all sheep:mad:

    Anyone know how much per year would this cost to follow galway soc rules?
    Below is from the Galway sheep society webpage

    New Breeders are always welcome and they should pay close attention to the following guidelines on how to become an established breeder.
    1. Buy sheep that are Pure Breed and Registered from an Established Breeder.
    2. Join the Galway Sheep Breeders Association.
    3. Obtain a Flock Code from Teagasc in Athenry.
    4. Join the Breed improvement programme which is operated by the Department of Agriculture & Food.
    5. Tag all sheep in accordance with the requirements of the National Sheep Identification System and the requirements of the Association.
    6. Keep all relevant records and them up to date.

    Careful now, with Connemara ponies there is a historical aspect to having them for GLAS purposes. Check the GLAS T&C's to see if there is a historical aspect to having Galway sheep for GLAS or you might spend money for nothing.
