Hope this doesn't sound too elaborate....

I have a satellite dish on the house, it is there years (possibly 10) and was installed as part of a sky TV installation. The sky account was closed years ago. The dish and box still work. The sky TV card is removed and I have the box set to UK default channels. I get all the free to air stuff.

If I want to set up a new sky account, will I need a new satellite dish? Or will I just need a modern sky box?

Secondly, if I set up a new sky account and then take the new sky box out of the country and set it up in a foreign (EU) holiday home, will I be able to set the old sky box back up in the house in Ireland and just have my basic free UK channels again?

Finally, and alternatively, could I get sky multiroom and do as above? Will sky multi room work if one box is attached to one satellite in ireland and the other 'room' is actually attached to a separate satellite dish in another country?!

Sorry for all the questions, bit clueless on this stuff.

    Thanks very much in advance.

Edit : ps, does sky insist on the box being hooked up to a telephone line these days?

You won't need a new dish but you might need a new box depending on what you currently have and what you intend to subscribe to. However Sky will provide a new dish as part of the install and will likely give you a new Sky+HD box free.

Yes but you will be in breech of your T&C's for receiving your subscription in a different location.

From a technical point of view it would work but would be in breech of your Sky Terms and Conditions. Both boxes are supposed to be connected to the same Internet connection. If Sky don't receive a callback from for a while for your multiroom box they may start charging you a full subscription for the second box.

Not if the viewing card was activated after 17th Decemeber 2013 or if the box is connected to the Internet. Sky ask for the boxes to be connected to the Internet where possible.

Thanks very much for taking the time to give all that information.

I don't have a telephone line in Irish house and I have no wifi in foreign home so it looks like a multi room won't work. I'm guessing even just having a single box and bringing that away won't work either as it would not be connected to either telephone or wifi.
