hy there, I am a wildlife photographer based on the West Coast , on the Clare/Galway border. I am trying to locate minnow populations in order to photograph them in their natural environment. I have not been able to locate any in my local rivers. Can anyone post me in the right direction?

    thanks

Mod Note: Keep it to one thread Gudgeon!

Where have you been looking? You'll need slow, shallow parts of the river - might have luck later in the year as the weather gets warmer and river levels go down a bit?

I have been looking for the last two years, in all kind of waters. I found some in wee river in co.Kildare, but it has become so polluted, they disappeared. If anyone knew of any water, anywhere in Ireland, that holds a stock of minnows, please let me know, thanks

I seen them last summer in lough derg where I bring my dogs swimming, at least I think they were minnows.

There used to be a lot of them in the Dodder, in Dublin, but I don't know if they are still there.

There is a linear park along the north bank from Dartry going towards Rathfarnham, and I used to see shoals of them walking along there.

It's still quite early to see shoals of minnow about.
June/July is perfect time to see shoals of minnow about.
And there's a place I fish on dodder that does hold literally thousands if them in a small area.

thanks for all your messages. Next time I am in Dublin, and the weather warms up, I'll investigate the Dodder.
