Whats the biggest increase you've gotten when changing job?

Whats the biggest increase in salary you've gotten when changing jobs? I think it's common knowledge that staying in one company only gets you a small percentage increase per year (in general) and that the large salary jumps come with a new position. What's the most you've ever got?

Can't say it's happened to me yet but I am looking around (I work in IT) and I'm fairly certain I could get a 10k increase in salary in a new position.

40 per cent in one move I made during the boom

50% increase in total compensation last year. I'd imagine that's relatively unusual unless it's someone going from a min wage job to a decent graduate position. In my case a top five company in my industry were expanding and willing to pay to get the right people.

Edit: salary % was about 40 of that 50%

Moved for a 28% increase, and then went up to 86% more than then prev within 6 months. Yes, we all partied!

This job came with a 30k increase, but before that it was only ever 3 or 4k when I moved.

I think I got just below a 100% increase in early 2000. In current job I am about 50% less then what I was in good times.

Approx 580% increase around 5 years ago. Happy days!
Had to move countries though and prior to that had lost around 50% in a series of paycuts and lowerd salary when moving between companies just trying to stay afloat.
Reality around 10-20% any move would be good in my opinion.
Generally, Yes, I think you need to move companies to hit big increases but is a fine line too many moves and you look like a mercenary.

86% after moving away from my first job out of college. Software engineer – if that makes any difference.

How did you find it if I may ask? Have you had like an intership before you applied? I did computer science and seem to be forever stuck in fcucknig QA... can't move on to engineering at all. So annoying!

Much the same most people do. Found the job advertised on the internet, applied for the job, did phone and face to face interviews, and then got offered the job. I did an internship in an unrelated field and by pure hapstance I ended up interacting with employees from the same company I got the job in – don't know whether this had any impact on me getting the job; I'm sure it didn't hurt.

Congrats then, well done! Hopefully one day or another I will get my dirty paws on engineering too. For now it seems almost impossible in Dublin... 3 years experience for a Junior position makes me wanna punch people in their faces :pac: done complaining, sorry for offtop!
