    Anyone else think it's awful?

Took the update thei safternoon and the layout of it and functionality and information provided is far inferior than what was there before.

Yeah - but is the data behind it any better?

I don't care how nice a real-time app is if it's just showing information I could have got from the timetable.

Just tried it now on the windows phones. For trains it ok. But doesn't have reminders for trains, I don't use buses. No information on Luas? Might test it with the local bus later.

Every app and its brother does real time information. But personally I tend to plan my journey a bit before I travel, last minute, even commuting. All these apps are useless for planning ahead. The time window is too small. The timetables on the Irish rail are ok. But are a bit long winded for commuting.

Died an absolute death on my entirely stock Android, had to clear all data to get it to even open. It's a mess now, trying to get info on a nearby stop is multi click and non intuitive

Its minute countdown to northbound trains from Tara Street was 2 minutes ahead of the platform display. Also, the northbound and southbound departures kept swapping places on the display. Amateurish!

Tried it again this morning on WP. Buses didn't work. It feels like early beta software. There's a bunch of apps that do all this much better. Feels like the authors of this app don't actually use public transport or any of the apps that are out there already. Or test this app before releasing it.

I've uninstalled it and the earlier version. Didn't find either of them in the slightest bit useful.

I found the old one to be far better, it was far more detailed than the other apps.

They removed now though the ability to click a DART service and see real time running info, which was very useful to know when there was disruption to see if a DART was stuck somewhere or the real time location of a DART that appeared to be running late.

For bus times I have found that many of the bus stops are wrong and mixed up with stops in the opposite direction! Very confusing and probably more a nuisance to tourists or people from outside an area, exactly the people this is aimed at!

Theres a bunch of next bus/train/dart apps that work so much better.

So unless your doing that at least as well as those apps I don't get the point. The alarms would be useful, if the rest of the app worked. As it doesn't they are entirely useless.

RTI for me was always the best app, until the current update.

The third party apps did not have detailed DART information on press, which was godsend in a disruption and no information being provided at stations.

The Irish Rail website and platform displays often counted down even when a trin wasn't moving therefore tricking you into thinking something was running when it was not since if a train didn't move they ran off the timetable rather than real time.

    You had something like:

    Status: Arrived Raheny
    Last Update: xxxx

I use one called Luas Times on WP. They are so close together though I rarely have to use it. Maybe its not real time.

There are seven bus stops on Kill Lane which runs from Foxrock Church to Deansgrange Cross, all are serviced by the 46A and 75. Four are for outbound (to Dun Laoghaire) and three for inbound buses. Unfortunately this app has decided to call all seven of them 'Kill Lane' so when you add them to your favourites and then call up the list, you're presented with a list of bus stops, all with the same name and no indication of whether they are serviced by inbound or outbound buses - completely useless!

A lot of these apps that look at bus stops are very user unfriendly. They should filter by direction. No one knows off hand what the stop number is, and often not even the street name.

You're not always near them when looking them up either. This obsession of every app having to know where you are and only allowing nearby locations is flawed logic.

Both use cases are only useful for subset of the potential users.

Presumably that's because each Dublin Bus stop has a two line stop name and the app is only picking up one line?

I don't know as I've not got an android phone.

Yes that appears to be the case. It means that in a list of favourites, the stop on the N11 opposite Foxrock Church will have the same name as the one at UCD - 'Stillorgan Road'.

The practical solution is to go to your list of favourites by pressing the star button, then press and hold on the stop, then click the pencil icon and it will allow you to change the official name to a nickname. It would be far more user friendly if it gave you that option at the time you make the stop a favourite i.e. show you the official name in edit mode and let you substitute a nickname.

Yes but there are two TfI apps.....

    1. Journey Planner

White icon, text in lower half reads: 'Transport for Ireland', above that is an A --> b symbol and app name (under the icon) is 'Journey Planner'

    2. RealTime Ireland

Dark Blue icon, text in lower half reads: 'TRansport for Ireland', above that is an alarm clock and app name (under the icon) is 'RealTime Ireland'.

This thread is about the second one, the dark icon and more specifically about a recent update.
