Brake master cylinder or servo?

    The brake peddle on my td5 defender almost went to the floor on the way home last Saturday. By pumping the peddle it returns to normal but it only lasts a short time, and by the next time I brake its the same thing all over.

    The system is not leaking any fluid and I replaced the old stuff and bled them today but unfortunately it did not fix them.

    I think the master cylinder is the likely suspect but I'm not sure it may be something else the servo maybe ?

    Before I go ordering parts that I may not need how do I pin point the problem ?

    Any help greatly appreciated
    OAP.

    Servo has nothing to do with pedal travel, if there are no leaking then it looks like the master cylinder.

    Would agree that it sounds like the master cylinder .
    I assume you have checked carefully for leaks - even a small leak can cause the pedal to sink as the amount of fluid moved by the pedal is quite small ;
