The fuel pump has died ( according to recovery guy ), does anyone know what sort of money to replace? I am going to have to bring it to VW to get it fixed the car is 3yrs old but warranty was only 2 years, would 3 yrs be a time for such a problem? I would of thought that something like a fuel pump would last for donkeys years, not having a good time with ups, just had a new engine put in my 141 ( petrol stretching) and now this on the 2012, whatever happened to the " if only everything in life was as reliable as a VW":mad::mad:

I can't see my local vw dealer fitting that. I could be wrong though, i'm caught between getting a non dealer person to replace it or sticking with vw, I suppose with the car out of warranty there is no need to stick with vw but i always felt safer going to a main dealer ( whatever make we had), my feelings could be misplaced though, never an issue with the car till after the last service, got 2 new tyres and they were fitted with "faulty valves" they deflated, one of them is still going down slowly and now the fuel pump, i hope this is all coincidence.

It's out of warranty. It's not a complicated job. Just get a mechanic to fit it.

Is this the car that had an engine lately?

Thought it might have been related. Extremely bad luck OP, hope it turns out to be something smaller.

Just back from VW dealer they spent several hours trying to locate the problem ?
turns out the fuel pump is ok the problem was a connector that connects the fuel pump to a circuit board (under the dashboard near where the drivers knee would be) has come loose, the driver would not have access to this in everyday use and it would not of come loose as a result of anything the driver did. He said it was a faulty connector and it has now been replaced and they are ONLY going to charge us 2hrs labour and the cost of repair which is €147 all in, opinions on this please? is it reasonable? the car is out of warranty so not covered there, just seems unreasonable to me to be charged for a fault which is from the factory build, no movement on these parts I cannot understand how something that doesn't move can just come loose.
I am very agitated at the minute with the trouble we have been having with the cars.:mad::mad:

It's out of warranty. VW won't reimburse the dealer for their time.
I don't think you did too badly to be fair.

so there we are thinking maybe you, colm_mcm are right, we did ok, but lo and behold the same problem again today just 2 engine starts after it was "fixed" gotta love our local VW dealer !! now at this stage all I can say is I am happy that the dealers is closed at this moment in time because I am sure I will have calmed down by tomorrow morning.
Any advice on how to approach the situation in the morning? we certainly do not want to ring the rescue company again, we live 5 miles from the dealer.

when you have replaced two fuel pumps, two clutches and two gearboxes come back to me. I am the living proof that the 2005-2012 Passat is the worst car they ever built.
