Any word on Apple Pay for Ireland? I'm really interested to see if it takes off here, could be a great thing.

Not working here yet. Apple are looking for a bank to partner with before they can roll it out.

Apparently they aren't far off launching in Canada, and it was due to come to the UK this year but it seems unlikely. The banks aren't happy with the amount they have to give to Apple, and because we're all contactless anyway there's no huge need to upgrade the hardware.

Wouldn't hold your breath. Very little in it for banks and Ireland's banks all all about what's in it for them. A population of 5 million isn't a great market for banks tbh.

Last I heard they were talking to the Irish banks for potential launch later this year.
Who knows how that will go.
Here is an article from the examiner from the middle of last month.

Probably not much changed since then.

I think there is a lot in if for banks as the system will lead to more electroinic payments with a percentage fee per transaction and moves people away from cash that has higher handling costs.

I'm sure it will come here once the right partner is found.

Market is big enough for Mastercard, Visa etc, so no reason for Apple Pay not to come here.

Not sure how much truth is in it, but apparently Apple are talking with Bank Of Ireland.

Any stories that are appearing in the press about Apple talking to AIB or BOIs (issuers) is complete BS.... The banks' Credit Card departments here will only be dealing with auths and settlement, nothing to do with the tokenisation that is employed in the Apple Pay implementation of EMV Payment Tokenisation Specification.

Apple would be talking to Acquirers for this roll out - not banks.. and there is such competition between them, the Independent is the last place you will read about these discussions.
