    Hello,

I was hoping someone might be able to help me. I'm thinking of moving abroad to work and I was thinking about America.

Does any know the process involved in getting a visa?, can you even get a visa? Is it very difficult to move over?.

I would love to move but not sure if it is possible. Do you need to have a job set up before you can go over or to apply for a visa?

Any information is is greatly appreciated as I have looked on internet but nothing really has any good information.

    Thanks,

    F

Virtually impossible unless you're in a company that can move you, you marry an American or you have "extraordinary abilities".

    Try Canada, that's relatively easy.

It is next to impossible to secure permanent residency from the get go. There is usually an annual lottery for green cards but you are competing with other countries and it really is like winning the lottery to actually get one. If you do decide to throw your hat in the ring don't use a company just lodge your own application. It is simple so save your money. But again unlike the days of the Morrison and Donnelly visas there is no special allocation for Ireland so it is a real long shot. If you are very recently out of college they may have introduced a one or two year visa. But I am not sure about this.

If you are planning moving long term I would at least consider Canada or Australia/New Zealand. Plenty of opportunities and they tend to look after their citizens far better than the U.S. But try it out for yourself if your heart is set on it. It's an exciting country especially if you're relatively young. There may also be other forums on boards with better info on moving abroad.

What sort of work were you looking to do? Perhaps you'll qualify for an H-1B visa? That seems like one of the easier ways to get in.
