    Hi

Let me start by saying I am pretty useless when it comes to cars. The clutch went when I was in Enniskillen on the way for a few days holidays, had to tow it back to Dublin which cost a small fortune. Looking for a mechanic which won't cost me another bank loan in D15 area or near enough. The guy tried fixing it on the side of the road, he filled the gearbox fluid up but it leaked almost immediately and the clutch wouldn't spring back after an hour of trying. Any ideas?

Just to add is it possible to get a quote without being charged for another tow as I can't drive the car.

You need a clutch and slave cylinder by the sounds of it should be easy enough to get a quote over the phone.

What engine is it ?? Chances are the flywheel might need replacing when the gearbox is removed if its 1.6 diesel so get them to quote with and without.

Ive never had much dealings around there but ive heard good things about Coolmine motors.

Probobly would have been better off getting it fixed in the north would have worked out cheaper.

It's a 2 litre petrol turbo, does that change things much? Any idea what that would cost. I'll try coolmine motors cheers!

Would discount tyres go into that much detail, clutch, leaks, possible hyrolicks plus a toe?

Yes they would, the name might be a bit confusing but they are a full garage.

Another recommendation for Coolmine Motors in Coolmine industrial Estate - highly recommended from my personal experience. Discount Tyres used to be my garage of choice, but I feel they have gone downhill a bit in the last 12 months

Wouldnt go to discount tyres, found them awful to deal with.I got a price off them for alignment and wheel balancing over the phone but was asked for 25% more after it was done.
Flemings in blanchardstown corporate park is your man.Very honest and no messing about.I also think he has a tow truck but not 100% certain.

So turns out its a master cylinder replacement which needs to be ordered from the main dealer. I've been quoted 420 for the entire job from the bodyshop in damastown, 3 hours of work. I've priced the job with a few other establishments and it seems to be the going rate so decided to go with them.

Out of interest, does anyone have a rough idea of the going rate for a release bearing, clutch and DMF replacement on the S60?

Ive now got a call back from the same mechanic saying it wasn't the master cylinder after all its the slave cylinder after pressure checks. Its internal and to get this fixed they will need to take the suspension and gear box out which is 2 days labour he reckons it could be 1500 euro for everything. My mind is blown!!

I told you that a week ago without even seeing the car how did it take a week to diagnose a slave cylinder.

Also it doesnt take two days to do that job one day max.

Yep you called it, fair play.
At that price I would be getting a slave cylinder, a clutch kit and a flywheel.
To his credit he has has also got a cheaper price from another business at €1350 Mr Euro Clutch said he would tow it there no charge or any work he has done previously.
Ive also tried flemings garage for labour (4 hours but could take a full day), slave, clutch kit and flywheel they are charging €1200. Waiting on a few other quotes to come back to me.
After the breakdown Ive joined AA so can get it towed to another place using them.
