I noticed the Galway private clinic last year treated 50 public patients with Robotic Prostatectomy.
It looks like that's about €12,000 per patient
Is this service available elsewhere under public health cover

I think the only one in the public system is in CUMH, used for gynae procedures only.

I was just wondering if the HSE has a similar scheme running this year where they send public patients to the Galway or Mater private for Robotic Prostatectomy

I stand corrected James, article here about some Galway public patients being referred for the procedure in January 2014. This article would suggest this had happened by the end of last year. Not aware of it happening elsewhere.

If there is not much difference in the procedure costs between Robotic & Open Surgery especially when Robotic frees up bed space by reducing the number of days spent in Hospital then why is there not more referrals.
