mother has a golf 2.0 gt tdi, how much do you think as a late teen would i get cover for? Surely i can get that 6 month free accompanied insurance for €500?
Also she has ncb for 5+years and 5+ years of full licence also has a policy of €500 mark a year.

Her ncb is irrelevant to you getting insured

No idea what you mean about the six month insurance but going by numerous previous threads on this subject if you are 18/19 then you are probably looking at a couple of grand to get cover

The OP is referring to this: http://www.aviva.ie/online/driving/driving-school/

You can add a learner to your existing Aviva motor policy if you buy their driving lessons package (at least 10 lessons). The learner is only covered when accompanied, must have a learner permit at the time of application and must complete all the driving lessons within the 6 months of the free cover.

I think there may be an age restriction for you to get insured on a car like that. My friend was told he had to be over 25 to get insured on his fathers Volkswagen Passat (2ltr engine).
My cousin, who is 19 and has his own insurance policy, driving a 2010 Audi A4, was told he had to be over 25 to be insured on his parents cars (Audi A5 and Mercedes jeep).

It would still be worth checking in to, there may be a way around it or differeny policies, but afaik there is an age restriction if the cars engine is a certain size.

I did the Aviva thing a while back too. Best deal while you're on a provisional licence. Too bad the 6 months don't count for anything to any insurance company. You still need to be accompanied as well so I'd try and get my full licence ASAP if I was in your situation again.
