You have me confused so before I say anything what do you mean by " but not sure the sky plus would work the same and if it did with I lose the HD cause of no HDMI."

A new sky hd plus box will have hdmi outputs but may not have scart or rf's. !!

Say a bit more ie have you got an sky hd box etc

Sky+ will work with one feed. It will have limited function though. You will be able to pause and rewind. You won't be able to record 2 things at the same time though. If possible, the installer will run a second feed for you.

Is the existing box in the attic?
Where do you plan to install the new box?

If the new box goes in the attic 1 cable to the TV from the attic will be OK with the 2 feeds from the dish run to the box in the attic. If the box goes at the TV point 2 feeds from the dish will be required to the box to avail of the full functionality of Sky+ recording.

If you locate the new box in the attic you will have the HD channels but in SD quality only as the TV requires a connection via HDMI.

If you locate the new box in the attic it will require an I/O link (for magic eye functionality) as the newer boxes come without a modulator, the installer should supply it.

Thanks for all replays lads yea existing box is in the attic its a old white sky box for FTA and there one wire going from that down to TV in sitting room with magic eye in sitting room. Its a 2 storey house with all wires in attic and don't really want any wires on outside of wall for tidyness sake . sky plus be no good if I couldn't record

You can use a stacked destacker to run 2 feeds down 1 cable.

Would that give me all the function's of the new sky box

Yes it would. Run 2 cables from dish to attic Put on stacker put destacker downstairs. Be a lot cheaper to run a extra cable. If u are running extra cable run double cable So U can run rf back to other rooms.

more than likely special order through local tv installer or retailer.
if ur ordering its a "Global stacked destacker"
I have used a few in my time and they work well on a short run. Eg 20 m of good cable. They are iffy if used on older poorly shielded cable.
    Where about are you.

In Mullingar area. Actually looking at it thinking of just running cable straight from dish to box at TV think if I come out through vent in soffit and down behind drain pipe might be tidy enough and prob a better job in the long run

when sky guy calls, he will fit a new quad lnb to dish ie it will have 4 outputs, you could ask him to run 2 cables to box and then use other cable as a spare, you never know. They use shotgun cable ie 2 cables in one and its neat!! Then the other cable could be used to send picture from sky box to an upstairs room etc.

To use a magic eye you need one of these, it has 2 rf feeds as well.
