Help on buying a used Yaris

    Hi all

I am looking to buy our first car in Ireland and we were thinking of a small reliable car to drive around town and maybe a short escape around this beautiful island once a month.

We had a Yaris back in Italy that did the job quite well so we are looking (at least for now) for this model. We have a budget of 7-8K tops.

I am concerned about finding a good car dealer that has good reputation and will give you some warranty. We saw these two, wondering if anybody has some opinion about the dealer and about the car:

    www.crsubaru.ie/viewanad.php?ad_id=1229902&r=#!prettyPhoto

On the same line of discussion, I have seen this Carroll and Kinsella dealer, which seem to be official toyota dealers and they have some Yaris on stock (but higher price). Any feedback on that dealer? It gives me better impression that these two but prices are higher there.

I know we should probably go with someone that can check the car but before we take any step further I am looking for feedback on the dealers (if they been long int he business, experience from people dealing with them, etc..)

For the moment we are not looking to buy private.

    Thanks!

Good rule of thumb with Yariss is to get one with coloured door handles, this means they also get the curtain and knee airbags, better stereo, leather steering wheel, audio remote, height adjust on drivers seat, reach adjust on steering wheel.

The first garage you linked is a main Subaru dealer.
Lif you are looking at main dealer cars, use carzone.ie

Also, Yariss go for big money in Ireland, but those you linked are just overpriced, you should get an 08-09 for under €7k

Year is a lot more important in Ireland too when it comes to value, compared to some other countries.

I would price insurance on a 1.33 model as they are infinitely nicer than the 3 cylinder 1.0

I have seen that yes, the year seems to increase the price a lot. Why is that?

I have seen that this car from 2007 may cost X and the same car from 2008 with way more Kms costs way more too... is the year so important?

I had a look around and I do find Yaris 08-09 on that price, but with more KMs , so that is why I am asking.

    Regards.

For future resale, year will be more important.
    Obviously condition matters too.

Car tax system change; the 07 and older models are on the older and generally more punishing scheme of taxing for smaller cars for the yearly tax.

While looking for a corolla for my nephew, I found that a dealer/breaker here in Donegal is bringing Yaris' in by the shed load, I'd say mostly from England. Not sure if they are all damaged repairable, but there is quite a selection and more seem to be added all the time. I didn't check, as he had no corolla's so only drove past.I bought a mazda of him 8 years ago and was one of the best cars I've ever owned (engine still going strong, but the old wood worm has got a hold). I think they are all sold with ncts and some sort of warranty, but I would recommend getting a mechanic to give them a good going over before parting with your money. No connection other than buying one car there. If you want a link pm me.

Just my 2c but I was never a fan of the second generation Yaris. They felt alot cheaper built than the first generation. Fit and finish is poor, miles of cheap looking plastic around the cockpit as there was obviously cost cutting involved and that 3 cylinder 1.0 litre engine is noisy. Similar story to when Toyota replaced the Corolla with the Auris, a step backward rather than forward imo.

Yaris 1.0 is only €200 on the old cc based system, an 08 on the newer emissions tax is €270 - so not much of a factor here

You're 100% right. The op could get nicer stuff for the money.

Hi all and thanks for the answers.

With a 6K-7K budget, what sort of car would you look into? We thought of Yaris because we had good experience with it and seems to be known for being reliable. I can't find better prices unless the mileage goes up, and I don't even know what is worse, more miles, more owners, older car model.... any advice on this would be helpful

I don't want to look into private sells as I would have to bring someone along to see the car, plus I am looking for some warranty (year lets say) which main dealers usually offer.

PS. know **** about cars, but I guess you already figured that out ;)

What year/engine type Yaris fix you have before?

    It was a 2006 1.0 I think, with 9000 kms, very new
Any other cars that are similar?

I know of someone who traded in an 08 D Yaris silver/blue last week in Denis O'Mahony motors Kilbarrick North Dublin. I've no idea how much they would resell it for or if still available but would be a great buy for someone as low mileage and very well minded

Could be this one? Looks ok but it's the poverty spec model with black door handles and mirrors.

No. That's not it. It was a Dublin registered car. I don't know what spec it was.

Well if you want the peace of mind of a 1 year warranty on a 8/9 year old car then you will be paying for it in the purchase price.

I'd be looking at a Fiesta, my sister has had one for the last 4 or 5 years and has had no trouble with it despite it not being looked after very well. This one is being sold by a Toyota dealer so it will probably come with a good used car warranty:
