    Hi Team,

Im new ( 1.5 years ) in Ireland / Europe , I need a small help on selling a car.

I have brought a very old car during initial years ( to have low insurance and tax , since first time drivers are charged very high insurance etc ) , off late the car is having a lot of works that needs to be done and it seems its not worth for me to spend any more, its not that its not worth driving ( just NCT'ed till next year ), its just that i fix one then a month later something else pop up , which is really frustrating , now i have a catalytic converter alarm popping on my dashboard ( that is once i have driven to about 20 Km from a cold start ) and when it comes on , engine stops to supply power when accelerating , the mechanic said that it fixed something but no luck and now he is telling to me change something else ...

    So i had these options.

    1. Don't want to sell the car to anyone , since i know i will be cheating them as the car is not worth anymore and they will be spending more money than they give me for the car ...
    2. Went to car dealers ( 5 to 6 of them ) , most of those guys dont want to listen and some of them were very rude and most of them were offering me a joke of money and not negotiating.
    3. I decided to scrap , but they give like Euro 70/- per ton , which is even worse.

Then i saw ads on DoneDeal ( under Wanted Car Ad ) section ( like ads in the below URL )

    _h t t p://cars.donedeal.ie/find/cars/wanted/Cork/?source=ALL

They were offering a good price and they are okie to take the car in any mechanical condition , but i have been searching board.ie forum and i understand there is a lots of scams on DoneDeal.

Can anyone let me know if they have experience trading your cars to these buyers are they genuine ? what do they do with the car ( i mean do they scrap them / sell for parts etc ) , if i do sell them what should i take care in making sure that the car is no longer under my name and i have sufficient proof that i sold to him and Will i only deal with for Cash and other method like Cheque / Draft etc ) .

Your help will on this topic is highly appreciated.

    Thanks

Those "we buy any car" will give you a crap price too for the car but it may be better than dealers.

Sell them car and you send off VLC to Shannon.

    Hi Biko ,

Yes they are not offering a good price but they are much better than dealers as they listen and did offer a bargain and also the amount was much better than dealers

Changing VLC i guess you mean "change of ownership" right ? ( i.e logbook ) , Whose name would normally go to, is it the donedeal guy himself ( i havent seen him yet and also not sure if he has a registered car selling stop etc , just talked via phone and he gave me a quote and rest he told me would deal once he sees the car etc ).

    Thanks

Yeah, VLC/VRC/logbook. They will fill in new owner details in the logbook but you send it off.

Just be straight up about what's wrong with the car, out it on donedeal for €300 and see what happens.

Agreed, but put it on Adverts.ie too. I had more success on there with a similar car last year. (An 01 Avensis suffering from rust underneath.)

Unless he's interested in swapping the car for €50 and a mini disc player I wouldn't bother.
