New Ford Focus - Parking sensors to be added at a later stage?

I recently traded in my old car for a new Ford Focus 1.6 Diesel.

I struck a deal with the dealer; if the rear parking sensors were added in for the same price I'd take it.

I took delivery on Friday but the rear parking sensors were not installed.

The dealer told me that they would be added by a mechanic who would call out to me at some stage early next week and install them outside my house, and that this job would take approximately an hour.

I was puzzled by this as I would have thought they'd be something factory installed and calibrated for direction accuracy by specialist equipment, etc.

I am now concerned that the sensors will not show.

Is it possible to install the sensors as the dealer suggested?

If it is not I'll need to know so I can start initiating chargebacks on my card that I paid the deposit on, etc..

AFAIK Ford do get in specialised people to fit in parking sensors. I remember I went to a Ford dealership for work experience and a guy came in whenever someone was looking to get sensors fitted to their car - new or old!

I'm starting to feel naive now. :(

I wonder is this grounds for cancelling the deposit and payments...

Did the sensors the chap fitted work as well as the ones installed in the factory?

Depends what deal was struck but if it was for factory fit and they are not included I would be very annoyed. In my experience the after market ones never look as good as factory fit and are normally not integrated in to the car in the same way as factory fit, there will probable just be wired to the reversing lights to activate them.

This is what I would have assumed too.
In hindsight I think I should have refused the car on principal but what can I do now... :(
I'm starting to think the salesman wanted to box off the sale before month end...

Don't get too upset. Parking sensors are not complicated things and there is a pretty big margin of error on them. They don't need to be calibrated in a lab, they just need to beep when you're near something.
Dealers often have cars ordered or in stock so that you don't have to wait the full build time.

You may not get the same level of trade in from another dealer if the alternative car you order with factory sensors takes 16 weeks or whatever to get to you.

They won't be the same as factory ones, more than likely just beep when you get near something. Factory ones have the option of turning them on/off with a button, and will display on the screen how close you are to an object.
