Help on adapting American bidet attachment to Irish toilet

I'm trying to figure out if an American bidet attachment can be retro-fitted onto our Irish toilet! :p

The fitting is a T-junction with 7/8" openings top and bottom, which needs to be fitted onto our current copper pipe (1/2" ID).

Is it wishful thinking to hope that a 7/8" to 1/2" adapter will work? Could this be ABS plastic or would it have to be a metal fitting?

Easiest solution is to get a T-Valve with 1/2" connections, they have it on the website at BathroomSprayers. com.
