    Hi there,

I was with another club last year.

Since I joined my new club this year, I have been asked to play Jimmy Bruen, ironically playing away against my old club (awkward).

My issue is: Am I actually eligible to play for my new club as all my cards in for last year were with my former club?

    Any info appreciated, thanks.

You are eligible to play for your new club as long as you have four cards in qualifying competitions from last year. You will need to get the competition secretary from your old club to forward last years records to your new club. You will need to qualify in the stroke play part of the competition before the top four teams play each other in match play. So essentially you are playing the course firstly and if you qualify then you could possibly play against your old club. Enjoy should be fun.

Absolutely no problem there. The only stipulation is that you have three/four cards played last year in qualifying competitions.

Interesting. What part of the country is that? No stroke play format in Munster as far as I know.

Right sorry about that. I'm in Leinster. There are usually around 16 teams out at the same venue in the Saturday. You play in foursomes pairs opposite another club on Saturday. Each club has five pairings. You play stroke play the first day and the your teams best four cards count towards your team score. The top four teams then play off in semi finals the next day at the host club. First play fourth and second play third. The final is played on the same day. Heavy going if you get through. There are around 12 qualifying venues and then the winners of each goes on to play each other in match play. Eventually there is a Leinster champion. I wonder is it because there are a lot of clubs in Leinster when you include Dublin. We are playing up in cradockstown near Naas this year.

I played Jimmy Bruen a couple of times already in Connaught and we have no stroke format.. Simply just foresomes matchplay, 5 matches, 3 at home, 2 away or vice versa, knockout. Thanks for the reply, looks like I am eligible then.

Just have to try get myself to play my former club now on their turf, I can't see it going down too well.

Hard thing to do alright. Let us know how it goes. In Leinster we have the barton cup which is played the same format as your jimmy bruen except its a combined handicap of 14 instead of 17. And all handicaps are eligible.
