Unemployment tax back

On the revenue site it says to wait 4 weeks from the date of unemployment before making a claim for tax back except if you're receiving a taxable income in that case to wait 8. My taxable income is Jobseekers Benefit (188pw). If I try to reclaim it after the 4 weeks rather than wait would that substantially reduce the amount of tax that may be refunded? Basically I'm asking is it worth waiting. Thanks.

Your refund will be reduced by your DSP payments either way. But at 4 weeks your refund is based on 4 weeks unused credits and rate band whereas at 8 weeks it's based on 8 weeks unused rate band and credits. The longer you wait the more of a refund you will get. But you do get to keep applying for more of a refund every 4 weeks.
