I'm thinking about starting to drive and I am all excited about it until I get these quotes from these ridiculous, silly insurance companies charging a fortune making profit just because the government are too lazy to get the courts up to date to deal with claims relating to car incidents rather than the insurance paying out, it should be up to the person if they want insurance but of course this sad country thinks otherwise, anyway anyone have any advice how to get around it? I hope to get a merc and look good driving it so it might not draw too much attention from the pigs

    lol, good luck.

Hope you've a few million in the bank for when you have a liability claim. You'll look great in your merc then.

AFAIK if you can cover any claim you don't need insurance here, but that requires the person to have millions to cover any potential claims.

5 euro a week out of someones wages should be enough if a claim arises

How many weeks would it take to compensate somebody for the loss of a leg?

    At a fiver a week?

Worst case scenario - you put someone in a condition requiring life-long 24hr care for the rest of their life, which you then get sued for. €5 a week will cover that, will it?

You're into multi-million figures for that settlement.

And where do you think insurance companies get the money to pay for claims from? They pull it out of their bumhole?

Out of their 'huge profits' I suppose.

If OP had any sense, he'd just buy some shares in insurance companies and become incredibly rich.

they do have huge profits, they have enough to pay off all the debt this country owes

So why not buy shares in insurance companies and get rich? Then you could pay the premiums easily?
