I can't see it happening tbh.
Looking at done deal for example, there are 4 mk7 gti dsg and all are massively over budget.

Not a chance lad, you will struggle to even find a high mile base spec manual for €25k. They are only around since 2013 in low numbers and are desirable.

    This manual is asking €30k:

    Yeah that is not happening.

You could look at the mk6

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,220 ✭✭✭cojomo2

Thanks for the replies, guess I'll settle for a mk6 dsg, or a mk 2 tt dsg...although by th time I find one with low miles/good condition (am pretty fussy ) a mk7 May fall into budget!

Mine is for sale soon. 132. Already have a deal on a trade in and it's a nice bit more than 25k.

Is it a 3dr dsg? That's what I'm after, ideally in white. I'd go a couple grand more if one came up for that.

It's everything you want except it's manual! White, 3 door, low miles, immaculate factory fresh condition, nice extra spec...

Hard to find a white dsg in 3door ..they all seem to be manual ..had my eye on this one also

But figured if I'm spending that much cash I shouldn't settle for a manual ! I've jade both versions in the mk5 and thought the dsg was the business..

What is the spec on yours, and what are you changing to?

I saw that one the other day alright. Mine has a better spec!
    18's
    Xenons
    Climate control
    Nav
    Reverse camera
    Alcantra / half leather seats
Keyless entry / push button start
    Privacy glass.
There's pics of it on here and loads here: http://www.autostadt.ie/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=6231

    I'm changing to an R ;)

That one I linked to has all of that (not sure about stop start button-is that an extra?), has from and rear pdc also, doesn't have the alcantra trim -didn't even know that was an option -looks very nice indeed. Do they all have the engine cut out (in traffic etc) ?

Have you managed to keep those alloys unmarked? It looks amazing in the pics , so jealous about the R...would kill for one of those!! What colour? White again? How many kms have you run up on the gti ?

The one in your link definitely doesn't have keyless, climate control or the seats. That's over 2k of options just off the top of my head. Those 3 options in particular really make the car IMO.

The wheels were all totally unmarked until about a fortnight ago. Clipped the front driver's side one in a multi story but the mark is really tiny. Otherwise they are perfect. I am extremely fussy, the car is genuinely spotless. There's just 23k kms on it. Yes they all have engine stop/start but you can switch it off if it annoys you. I find it ok.

The R will be blue and have more doors (the 3 door has become a pain for practically reasons).

So as I said I have a very good deal for it on a trade in. I'd be open to selling it privately for the right money.

I would be surprised if you could pick one up for less than 30k at the moment.
I would look at joea3's car if I was you as I imagine it is immaculate and has been well cared for. A lot of the older cars won't have the spec he has on his as they were poorly equipped when launched here.

My 2c worth, I got €28.5K trade-in for my White 5 door Mk7 Gti manual (Aug 2013), and that car is very low mileage and has around €4K of extras...

I know there is a white 3 door White DSG (141) in Mc Allisters in Swords at the moment, and its been there for at lease 3 months standing €33K. They would be willing to do a deal, given its time on the forecourt, and mine arriving in in a few months, but I guess around €1K - €1.5K only...

€33k is a bit rich for it but I heard they weren't interested in budging on it! I'd say €30.5k - €31k should get it.
Demand is strong for these cars. My local dealer took a 132 in recently and had it priced at 30,950. It wasn't on the forecourt 2 days and it was gone.

If JoeA3 asks for a straight deal price on the R, then subtracts the cost to change from that price, you'll find exactly what the trade in is worth. (it always sounds better than it is until you find out what you can buy the R for with no trade in). IF that's close to your budget, I'd buy it off him!

Cash discount on the R is not great. Ballpark €2k.

Is there more discount on the gti over the R?
Are delivery times the same? The wait in the UK for the R and gti seems much longer than here.
btw is it true the R will only run on super unleaded?

No, not really. Roughly the same, give or take a few quid. The margins (so I'm reliably informed) are pretty much the same across the range.

Yeah, the situation in the UK is intolerable. Wait times for the R here are similar to the GTI, 10/12 weeks. I'm purposely delaying mine a bit as I want some spec improvements due in week 22 and I don't want the car anyway until July 1st.
btw is it true the R will only run on super unleaded?

No! If that were the case, they couldn't possibly market it here. There are guys in the UK who'll argue black and blue that the GTI should only get super unleaded too...

Joe, do you know if they have developed a map for the mk7gti? Doesn't seem to be one listed on any of the Irish remappers sites... I see Revo have one alright but not exactly local..

    Cheers

Yeah I believe APR have one and I heard Joe Power can do it. There's also the tuning box option but a friend of mine tried it in his Mk7 and didn't like it.
Personally I wouldn't dream of fcuking around with the ECU on a warrantied car. It'll raise flags on the ECU, VW will know you've messed with it. Been down that road before and it's not worth it.

Joe- just noticed my car has an extra that wast advertised- in the add he said it had a 5.8" screen when infact it's an 8 inch - I just assumes this was standard. Did you see an option for this on the extras list when you were getting yours- was it much extra?

    Thanks

ps when you getting the R? What extras are you ticking on it?

Yes you have the Pro Nav! It's a fantastic bit of kit and a very pricey option. Standard Nav (the 5.8" screen) which I have was around €750. That is now standard in new GTI's as part of the free Technology pack.
The Pro Nav that you have was about €1800 in 2013! Advantages are the larger screen, better resolution, faster processor, 30 (??) GB HDD, DVD player.

I was talking to the man who sold you that car yesterday. Sounds like ya got a bargain ;)

As for my R, don't mention the war. My build week has slipped out and it's now anyone's guess when I'll get it. Hopefully before the summer is out!

Spec is very generous as standard but a few extras I've ticked:
    19" wheel upgrade
    Leather
    Keyless

The 2016 spec cars also get the radio/Nav units upgraded. Larger screens, more functionality, CarPlay support...

Ah - torture ..it will be worth the wait though, such an awesome car. Some nice extras you picked there, what are the standard seats like if you don't go leather?

Yeah delighted to find out about the pro nav- nice as it is, I can't believe someone paid nearly 2 k extra for it - for me that would have been spent on a DSG!

Have you been reading all this talk about failing turbos on US forums? Seems to be a combo of warm climate and apr tunes!

Yes I got a good deal on the car as did he when he acquired it! Do you know him?

    Cheers

Don't know him at all. I called him to shoot the breeze and sound him out on how he got on with selling the car. Very nice fella! I came to the conclusion that the trade in price I'm getting would be very hard to better if I tried to sell privately.

Yeah the pro nav is/was horrendously expensive but it does make a lovely job of the dash to be fair. I agree... Better spent on DSG or even the likes of climate control / keyless IMO.

The standard seats aren't too bad. Dark cloth centres with very light coloured alcantara bolsters. But I felt a car in that bracket has to have leather. It's much classier. My car will look pretty much like the one in the attached pic.

Ah Jesus, I specked the Nav Pro my new GTi (have it on my current and love the bigger screen and other bits). That extra was priced at €1600ish, are you now saying it was standard, for July delivery of for 2016 cars ?

The HD on the Nav Pro (2013 model) has about 16gb usable capacity, from memory, but I tend to use the music on the phone via Bluetooth or the radio more.

No. The standard radio / Navigation system is getting a big upgrade. Screen size is up to 6.5" and resolution and speed will be improved (similar to the Nav Pro), as well as other improvements. CarPlay/CarNet stuff is supposedly coming too but that's a bit fuzzy at the moment.

Same here - I tend to use bluetooth streaming mainly.

Actually... did you not get a big discount on the Nav Pro, seeing as the regular Nav is now "free" as part of the Tech Pack? I was told the Nav Pro would cost me ~€1000 if I spec'd it.

Has your car a confirmed build week?

Nothing as yet, only that I should expect it arriving around 2-3 week July which suits fine... Ill actually drop the dealer a mail now and try to tie them down to a specific build week, based on your experiences above.

On the home front, I had to fess up to my partner that I had ordered a new car. Did not go down well at all. :mad:

    LOL :D

My car was to be built next week. That was my understanding until a week ago. It's now sitting on unconfirmed BW 28 (6 weeks from now) and I'm told it's due to alloy wheel shortages. If it sticks to week 28 and doesn't slip further, I might have it by end of July. That's taking the optimistic view...

Your car might be fine. Basically mine is held up due to specific parts availability (the R wheels).

Sure lash on a nice pair of 15" on the R and it will still look great :p:p

Are you paying full whack for the Pro Nav? You should be getting that discounted (in lieu of the standard regular Nav).
