Asking a best man?

    Hi Folks,
Any suggestions about how to ask a person to be your best man?
I'm thinking, call round with a bottle of red wine and just ask, no dramatics.
She, for her (single) bridesmaid, bought a box of girly stuff and a bottle of bubbly etc and made a big deal of it.

This is all new to me...

    Cheers!

Ah 'no fuss' is the way to go. Your plan is spot on, no need to girly it up.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm thinking just thinking a casual "Oh, by the way..." kind of thing. :-)
It's well over a year away anyway...

Just make sure he knows it's find if he doesn't want to do it. Many people wouldn't like the job but may not know how to say no

And there is nothing worse than a reluctant, useless best man!!!

Na, he's my brother and knows how to make a tit out of me. He'll be grand. :)

I've never heard of a man giving a gift when asking someone to be his best man, in fact it just sounds all wrong somehow.

Giving a gift shortly before or on the morning etc of the wedding would be the way to handle it.
