    Hi all,

I have a daughter going into her 3rd year in CIT and a son going into first year of college. We are trying to calculate which threshold we will come under for the grant.

    1. Is it calculated by total pay or pay for USC purposes from the P60?
    2. For interest on savings, is it the gross or nett value which is used?
    3. My daughter worked during last year, will she receive the holiday pay allowance still?
    4. How do they calculate the increment for each additional relevant person if we have to do two separate SUSI applications?

SUSI are closed until Tuesday, any feedback on the above would be much appreciated.

    Kind Regards,
    Kieran

    1. Is it calculated by total pay or pay for USC purposes from the P60?
    a. Total Pay on the P60, P21. (Minus Any Pensions Contributions that are allowed on the P21)
    2. For interest on savings, is it the gross or nett value which is used?
    a. Gross
    3. My daughter worked during last year, will she receive the holiday pay allowance still?
    a. Yes, 2 Weeks at Easter and Christmas and the summer months June through August.
    b. This is to a maximum of €3809
    4. How do they calculate the increment for each additional relevant person if we have to do two separate SUSI applications?
    a. Depending on a the threshold of the reckonable income that you fall under, an increment is added to the threshold for each child that is in further or higher education or a child over 16 that is certified as being unable to work.
    b. For instance, if you have under 4 children I the household the normal maximum threshold €54630. But if you have another child attending college you add an increment of €4670 giving you a cut-off of €59300.

    Hi Sup08,

Thanks for the information above. I have just one more question:
Regarding the holiday pay, do we need to provide wage slips for the holiday periods as my daughter worked from March to December 2014 inclusive?
Or is it the total wage minus the max allowance?
    I.e. Total earned wage €11,000 - €3809(max allowance?)

    Kind Regards,
    Kieran

    Hi Kieran

Evidence in the form of Payslips or Statement from the Payment System of the Company would be required.
A letter from the employer is not sufficient and the allowance is only given in respect of the evidence and amount shown for the periods specified.

    I hope that helps.

From my experience in our case , you will need P21 balancing statements for parents / students claiming this grant.

Pay-slips are no use , as they wont show the full picture of earnings
