All with Polish subs, boxing including the main event is scheduled on Tvp 1 and Tvp sport (both HD) Sunday early morning.

I wonder how many actually pay sky to watch it? Surely it can't be a high number, what with price/time on etc?

So was I when I heard that. But was working with lads from the UK during the week and that's what they were saying

It is $100 in the states

I don't have a Polish sub currently but I would get one for the year before paying Sky whatever it is they are charging for this fight.

Lads looking at liveonsat.com it's on Ukrainian channel 2+2 on 4.8e which is showing as fta.
Anyone know if can be picked up on satellite over here?

2+2 is very strong, 16 dB on my 1.1 m dish. You will notice the Ukranian flag on the screen, in common with many Ukranian channels since the war started.
It rang a bell with me so I went back to look for this thread from 2011. Might not be FTA, we will have to wait and see.

Keep an eye on this discussion as well. Suggestion there that it will be FTA on 42 East Kanalturk HD. That one is 12 dB with me. Again wait and see. But I don't think I will be staying up or getting up to watch.

2+2 is on 2 different frequencies on 4.8e. The hd channel is on the nordic beam which we can't get. The sd channel is on the European beam which we can get but on kingofsat it is showing as being fta/biss which could mean that it will be encrypted for the fight.

Kanalturk are also listed as showing it on 42e and kingofsat is showing their hd channel on the west beam which we should be able to get. I'll have another look and let you know if I find out any more info.

Bit like rai sport so, fta but encrypted for sports.

It looks like it is definitely on both channels and both are easily receivable in Ireland.

On Lyngsat 2+2 is shown as fta but on other sites it is shown as switching to biss encrypted. It is on 11766 horizontal, sr-27500, fec-3/4 on the europe bss beam.

Kanalturk is shown as fta in hd on 11999 vertical, sr-116666, fec-2/3 on the west beam.

    Beats paying rupert for it.

What's the signal like on 42east here?
Presume not much hope of getting on a lidl dish in poor weather.

It's still 12 dB, 7 is the lowest to get a HD signal on my box and the scale goes up to 20. The footprint shows a strong signal over Ireland but you would be taking your life in your hands to try to move a dish now.

They are showing boxing at the moment, a rerun of a previous card from the MGM Grand I think.

    Cheers.
There's a pub in town showing the fight so I'll prob end up in there later.
    Enjoy the fight.

Great HD pic on Tvp 1

I recorded it on TVP Sport and watched this morning. Superb HD picture on there too but boy was the content dull. I'd be very annoyed if I paid for that.

Your probably not a real boxing fan :)

Define what a "real" boxing fan is as I have seen that line trotted out at anyone who dared to criticise the snorefest that was this fight.

Mike Tyson was critical of it too. Is he not a real boxing fan? Oscar De La Hoya isn't a real fan either?

I recall similar when anybody criticised the Sky/GAA deal. Lots of people then weren't real GAA fans for being critical of that deal.

Ah I agree with you I was only joking that's why I had the smiley.

I actually was up all sat night waiting to watch it also on TVP HD and withinn 5 minutes of it commencing my snore fest began.

I was still wrecked tired all day Sunday :(

I recorded it so it wasn't too bad for me.

One thing very noticeable was how much superior the HD picture on Sky Box office was compared to the normal Sky HD channels .

You are surely not suggesting Sky would downgrade the SD coverage to get people to subscribe to HD Package / coverage :rolleyes:

Well no ,I was comparing HD with HD but yeah they have downgraded the SD channel picture quality over the years.
Whats apparent now is that they are downgrading the HD picture quality too,the bitrate is much lower and they are squeezing more channels on each transponder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭Stillhouette

And they still have a cheek to charge extra for HD.

    :)

But wait for what will be next from the Sky money making machine

Upgrade to the 4k series from Sky to match your new TV, just for an extra £15 a month - or maybe I am just far too cynical

4K can wait. I am more than happy with 1080p and I am sure I am not the only one. I have no doubt that in time we will all have 4K but it is a long way off before that.

What yardstick are you using here, the bitrate of the MPEG stream, and if so what method are you using to measure it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

4 k will only be as popular as 3d. Its only good on a very big tv too.

Its common knowledge that the sd channels have been downgraded.
The first obvious downgrade was to switch alot of the channels resolution from 720x576 to 544x576 .
They then gradually lowered the bitrate and squeezed more channels on each transponder to save costs .
