Hi all, bought a half built house and at wiring stage now. House is in a cul de sac and eircom had come years ago and installed a line to the small eircom box on side of house and there is a socket inside this box connected to a thick black cable. My electrician will be dropping out a regular phone line cable to this box to connect to inside phone point. The house will have cat 6 cable installed and im wondering should i be using cat 6 cable from inside point to main socket in the box outside? if i use regular thin white phone cable from outside socket to inside socket, am i limiting the speed/quality etc? Any house i have seen before had the usual white thin phone line so wondering is this black thick cable some kind of upgraded cable? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

The thick black one is eircoms telecoms UTP.

Get the spark to run cat5, if you're able to get efibre or may be able to get efire in future it could make a substantial difference. Cat6 would do too, but you wont really see any improvement once you get above shíte aluminium clad in copper(if you'r lucky).

Yeah I will be able to get fibre based on map and neighbour's, since I have cat 6 it's be ok to use yeah or is there something about cat 5 which would be better?

Yep, fine to use. Just way better than required.
