Doesn't sound too promising so. Problem is pruvate planners are like hens teeth about here. If teagasc can't get their plans done will there be an extension as they are the government body?

the way i was looking at was that if i didn't get in this time the plan will stand for the next round - hoping to get in this time since the take up is low and they should allow in the lads that want to get in now besides the boys sitting on the fence knowing they will get priority nxt time

    rant over haha:)

In the same position myself. Signed up in feb, the planner rang a week or 2 later to ask what I was thinking, then said he would be out in a few weeks. Never came.

So he can sit on it now :P havent paid yet thank god and wont be paying now. Think its too late to get the ball rolling now. Either way im not to keen on glas but the extra dosh would have been handy.

FRS are doing the GLAS plans for Teagasc clients, and at the meetings held in my locality this was explained and also that Teagasc were only going to be accepting plans from current clients who were up to date with their client fee. The price of the plan is separate, starting at €435. Teagasc also had to stop taking applications the end of April as FRS were experiencing difficulties with the submission of plans, which is a Dept of Agri issue.

I work for Teagasc and the amount of abuse I have gotten from people both in person and over the phone about GLAS, is unreal. I'm actually dreading work on Tuesday because some clients will have found out they have to wait until Tranche 2 in the autumn.

Does it really make a blind bit ofdifference whether a person gets in now or in the autumn?

Is it still not 5 calendar years from the date you get in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 358 ✭✭carleigh

Yep, its still 5 calendar years regardless. In my opinion it was ridiculous to open GLAS for applications just before the BPS. Even with both closing dates extended, its an awful lot to deal with when Teagasc can't hire additional staff. Thankfully I've only been dealing with the BPS side of things in our office.

I know of a few instances where the FRS planners had made arrangements with clients to walk their farms on a particular day and time, and we get a call from the farmer saying he has decided to go to the mart for a look and cancels the appointment. On Thursday two clients came in to sign off in their plans and at the last minute decided they wouldnt put in the application altogether! So all the time and effort was wasted. Speaking for our office, the 2 FRS planners are working very hard to get as many plans signed off as they can.

carleigh - that's not on that you should be getting abuse like that - but on the flip side Teagasc were pushing hard at the open meeting i attended a month ago to sign up

i agree that FRS/ all planners are experiencing issues with the department but that doesn't excuse the planner not making contact with clients, FRS/Teagasc are large enough to come out publicly and state this instead of leaving fella's hanging which in turn leads to your experiences with abuse from farmers

i still hold the point that if you went to the bother of getting a planner early, plan drawn up and submitted you should be allowed in on Tranche 1 even if you are not priority and the allocation of places haven't been filled.

alot of the priority boys are playing the waiting game which is unfair on others - seperate issue anyway

Well I qualify for tier 1 but will have to wait because of a parcel needing to be split.

I think it's nuts that you can't pick just 10 ha within an existing parcel to assign to low input pasture without having to do it for the whole parcel.
