I was in with Teagasc guy three weeks ago and asked much the same question. I did the on line Level 6 course in Gurteen in 09. I did the pesticide module (granted there was no practical on the sprayer but we did the module). Teagasc guy said he thought I might be qualified he would check it out. I was back in yesterday and asked him again. He had forgotten about it and still didn't actually know.

Anywhere we can get confirmation on this? Where do we get cert to prove that we would be qualified?

    Regards

Yes, the weed licker/wiper falls under the Boom sprayer category.
Rumour that weed lickers will require calibration testing from 2020

No, sprayers have to be tested before November 26th.

Not if you're not using it! Sure the sprayer course was supposed to be done before was it last Nov gone, but sure you're grand once you do it before you go spraying this year.

    Did it through FRS. €200.

What does the sprayer course involve?? a theory and a practical? is there an exam/test to pass as part of it or do you just sit there and take all in ??

I assume they are. I see them advertised by FRS locally. What part of the country are you?

I did it with FRS earlier this year, the first day involves sitting in a room going through a manual about the rules and regulations to do with spraying, the different types of sprays, safety gear, how sprayers work and their maintainence, how to work out how much chemical to use etc etc.
There's a written test at the end of the first day, the lad doing the course will be going over and over the questions during the day so it's handy enough.
You'll also have to fill out different forms during the day giving your PPS number about ten times, why they need this ive no idea.

The second day involve going to a farm, filling a sprayer up with water and doing a bit of spraying, looking at the sprayer and how it works. Then everyone does an oral exam on their own. Its not hard to pass I think.
As with all this type of stuff the most important thing is that you hand over the €200 and your PPS number, it's a goldmine for FRS anyway.

I assumed they were alright, I'm down around westmeath. Plan on buying a weedlicker during the year, handy to be able to do your own bit
