KLM and Air France to Dublin

    Hi folks,

I just wanted to ask out of curiosity why KLM hasn't operated into Dublin yet even with expanding a new service to Belfast City? Surely 2 airlines can complement each other on the Amsterdam route (which is quite a busy route for connecting traffic). Looking at other European cities where Aer Lingus operates from Dublin, there's room for 2 airlines to either code share and operate together or compete? Zurich, Madrid, Frankfurt, Paris being examples.

Also on the Air France query, if Cityjet were to fold could Air France come back to Dublin? Surely A319' 320's 321's would be in demand over Avro's with growing traffic every year so far at DUB.

KLM find the Aer Lingus deal they have perfectly sufficient, basically.

Aer France or Regional would be in in a flash if WX folded, but thats not likely for now.

If IAG bag EI it will be interesting to see if KLM return to Dublin?

The kept the deal in differing alliances in the past and AMS is slot controlled - so maybe. Two EJets a day wouldn't harm EI at all but would be a huge drop in potential connection options for KLM who do sell quite hard to Ireland. KLM has it all to lose by changing here.

I could see SNN before DUB even.

Noticed AF 1116 (A318) arrived in DUB from CDG at 16:20..... Is this new? I thought that all flights were operated by Cityjet.

And it was an A318 instead of usual Avro (http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AFR1116)

Does this sub in happen often?

On occasion and more often than not it's an ERJ 170/190

Am not 100% on this but had been told many years ago (as in pre-AF/KL) that KLM have a deal with their flight crew in relation to the EI/KL codeshare. They are only allowed 2 routes codeshared before their own metal must operate.
    Hence a codeshare on DUB-AMS and SNN-AMS.

KLM are happy to have EI operate the shorthaul into AMS and feeding into their longhaul operation.

Cork-AMS is also a code share.

As EI don't operate SNN-AMS I'd imagine he meant that.

Dammit, should have checked before I posted!!!!!
I knew there had 2 routes to AMS.

Again, that info is very old so may not have any relevance any more.

Unions have not stopping running AF/KLM just yet

FR have 9 daily slots at AMS from November and DUB/STN were applied for as 4 and 5 daily respectively (don't have to serve both routes) so KLM will be more important to EI than ever.
