Africa - which tour company?

Im planning on a trip to Tanazania and Kenya later in the year, I have 15days for the trip (and a few either side) and am planning to go with a tour company so as to maximise what i can see and also to travel with other people (im going alone).

I did an African tour last year with Intrepid and loved it, well organised, but it was expensive. Ive been looking at other companies such as Topdeck which are about one third cheaper.

Has anyone used a few companies in Africa and who would they recommened? Are Intrepid generally the best? or are the rest generally as good? Any tour companies i should avoid?

Any other tips or advise would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I used a company based in Tanzania called EASTCO (east african safari and touring company). I found it cheaper than booking through an Irish based company. The owner, Simon, is Australian but has lived in Tanzania for years. They company itself has been going for 20 years now so they're fairly well established. We just used them for Tanzania but our guide told us they also do Uganda and Kenya. They own a couple of lodges in Tanzania which were absolutely stunning, presumably this is why they could give better rates than other companies we contacted. We did 7 nights- Arusha NP, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti and Tarangire NP.

If you want any more info let me know and I can PM you. I know how overwhelming it can be looking at all the different companies and from what I could see there seems to be a big difference in quality across the board.

Acacia are phenomenal. We did Nairobi to Jo'berg with them a few years ago and they regularly get voted top overland company... The buses are better kitted out than a lot of the other companies, although you will find a lot of them do the same type of itinerary.

Take a look at the travel blog Getting Stamped - they just started a trip with Acacia.

Jealous would love to do it all over again!
