Quad dual wheel kit?

    Anyone ever put dual wheels on a quad?

    I know two companies are doing kits, one in the UK and one in NZ, not sure if there are others.

    No but got stuck with quad once or twice
    I came to the conclusion if its that wet stay out tell weather drys up a bit.
    The only place I got stuck is where there is no skin on the ground like a swamp or spring in rushes in wet weather the kind of place you'd leave your wellies after you.
    Not sure if double wheels would help much unless its for extra traction for pulling

    For stability on rough terrain I thought they were for?
    Saying that if it's that rough a bike would be better if it did happen to roll over I guess

    We haz a winner.

    Yeah it's for stability I'd be thinking of them. Particularly with the height of the new spreader, I had a slight "moment" today where I thought I was caught out.

    Re wet spots, any time I got stuck it was always with a load on board, getting off & pushing while throttling brought her out.

    always be prepared to jump uphill
    had a few hairy moments, sitting side saddle all set to jump puts all your weight on that side helping keep it balanced

    Oh I've done all that, have to on this land, I was standing on what the 20's gangsters would call the running board on one side spreading for a bit, then hopped onto the other side when changing direction, always using my own weight since I started driving it. It's the very odd miscalculation or error that'll catch a person out, that's when a rear set of duals could save a lot.

    Oh I've done all that, have to on this land, I was standing on what the 20's gangsters would call the running board on one side spreading for a bit, then hopped onto the other side when changing direction, always using my own weight since I started driving it. It's the very odd miscalculation or error that'll catch a person out, that's when a rear set of duals could save a lot.

    Mostly not to be fair, you have to pick paths through fields and that means angles and slopes are constantly changing. That's where duals will give that bit of comfort and safety.

    Just looked at your quad there, the centres are on the outside of the wheel,so if you turned them inside out you'd nearly get the wheelbase probably 15+ inches wider,
    Would make a huge difference, I'd be careful loading the carriers though

    Quad axles are marginal at the best of times, I think. Bearings will really take a hammering with duals.

    I can see where your coming from regards the stability but I'd worry would you be loosing out on grip due to the lower ground pressure the duals would also add,

    Can't remember what your quad is but if it's independant susp all round you should be able to order a set of widened arms all round or even just spacers, you should be able to get wheel spacers up to nearly 4" either side but just remember the extra loading that will be put on the wheel bearings(same to be said of the duals too)

    Aside from this you are totally changing the handling and cornering ability of the quad, if it has no rear diff (most smaller quads), it will be a pig to turn, bit like trying to turn a tractor with the diff locked.

    I was looking at the wheels earlier on with this idea in mind. I didn't take them off but I'm not sure it's a runner as the outside of the centers (not overly familiar with terms so I may get them wrong) are not flat like the inside which is against the hub. That may not allow the nuts to be re-tightened properly on a reversed wheel. I'll have to take one off and look properly at it.

    I looked up the carrier loading, 40kg front, 80kg rear. So I think I'll give up abusing her like I was :eek: Everything into the trailer from now on.
