Wishbone for Citroen C5

My NCT failed last night, it failed because of Wishbones bushes on the near side front.

Any idea how much it will cost to get this fixed on a 2009 Citroen C5?

    Cheers

    I would say around 250.

Feck, I need 3 new tyres also.

    The joys of motoring...

I'd say you need 4 new tyres.

Last time I got it done it was €70+ fitting.

Citroen will sell you the full wisebone arm for around €180-200 and don't sell the bushings separate.
You could pick up a bushing from your local autofactors for €30 and get an independent garage to fit it,
It takes time to remove the wisebone itself and remove the old bush,

When fitting the new spurious bush make sure its aligned up o.k. when pressing it on.
Note: The spurious bushing will not last as long as the original bushing.

    Why's that now?

Ideally you would have the same tyres on the same axle due to different tyre ratings and thread patterns for grip in wet weather.

The NCT require tyres on the same axle to be of the same spec (e.g. size, aspect ratio, type, winter/summer) but not necessarily the same brand. However having identical tyres on the same axle it's better for stability, handling and consistent grip. It doesn't matter if the rear tyres are different to the front ones so long as the tyres on the same axle are the same.
Incidentally why do you need new tyres, did the NCT fail them for some reason or did they merely give you a "pass advisory"? If the latter you could leave the tyres for a little while if funds are scarce and just sort out the bushes first in order to pass the retest. Not ideal but it'll get you through the retest then replace the tyres asap afterwards.

You're right actually, it says pass/advisory next to the 3 tyres.

Fail/refusal is next to the wishbone.

He did say that I need 3 new tyres though.

He advised you to replace 3 tyres because they are older than 6 years or have less than 3mm thread but still above the legal limit. The remaining tyre, I suspect, is probably just not as old or worn as the other 3 to warrant an advisory.
If you only put on 3 new tyres you could end up with an axle with one tyre with less thread. Now that might not make much difference on a dry road but it could reduce grip in wet weather or next winter. Unless the good tyre is recent with plenty of thread (>5mm) I'd recommend swapping it too or you could put on a similar part worn to match (not my preference).

I got a quote for a full service on my C5 and to get the front bushings replaced for 285 euro.

That's 170 for the full service and between 100 and 115 for the bushings (depending on which one is needed)

Seems like a good price to me, it's with O'Learys garage in Mallow
