So I dropped my car to be fixed, mechanic has had it over a month , keeps giving it back saying it's 100% buts it's still coughing smoke and rattling (diesel), paid him most of his money. He doesn't seem interested in putting it right. where do I go next

Nobody can give you any decent advice if you don't provide more detail.

    Make?
    Model?
    Year?
    Engine?

    Symptoms of problem?

What work has been done and charged for so car to try to fix the problem?

sorry, should I keep bringing it back to him or a new mechanic and pay more. It's an injector problem. He replaced all 4 and pump one injector isn't working.
    Thanks

You still didn't answer the questions. What car make and model? Year? Fuel type? Engine?

POV 06 is going out of his way 2 b helpful - if only you would answer his question?

DO NOT PAY YOUR SO CALLED MECHANIC ANY MORE.
Is he a qualified mechanic with professional accreditations ?

He has suckered you into paying him already without remedying the problem.
Did he get a CO2 emissions & engine diagnostics report? Ask him for these & if he hasn't got them demand a refund.

    thanks George
it was more about the mechanic than the engine problem.

What do you want us to say nobody knows what went on between you and the mechanic he could have advised a fix and you went with cheaper option or he hasnt a clue what he is doing. Is he a registered garage or a lad working on his driveway with a scissors jack and set of chrome vanadium spanners ??

If you give the information you were asked for then maybe people might be able to help.

He's a fella who rents a small garage, registered with who? simi, I doubt it. he used to work in a bigger garage then went out on his own. he said the car needed injectors replacing and then the injector pump all second hand. paid him €600, '05 astra 1.7

And does this "mechanic" know that if he changed the injectors ect that the quite possibly need coding.

Or the other thing is between you and the mechanic you's decided to go the second hand route as aposed to the reconditioned route. When using second hand parts ya never know what ur getting the old saying goes buy cheap buy twice.

    Anyways that's just my input
