License Question

    Hey Guys,

So just a quick one, My sister is doing her test next week and wants to do it in her car which is an automatic. I told her she might be better off doing it in a manual (she can drive manual cars fine) but just wants to do it in her own car which is fair enough.

Now I told her that with an automatic license i think she cannot drive a manual car at all and will be completely restricted too autos. She believes that she can still drive a manual car but with the same stipulations as a learner permit holder (L plates some one with full license 2 years etc) Cant seem to find anything online so wondering if anyone could shed some light on it.

    Thanks.

You are right, she will be licensed only for automatics.

"If you pass your test in an automatic car, you can only apply for a full driving licence to drive an automatic car. If you later want to apply for a full driving licence for a manual car, you will have to pass a test in a manual vehicle before applying for a full licence to drive it."

She is wrong you are correct. If she passes the test her Certificate of Competency will be for an automatic only and her full licence will be restricted to automatics. If she later wants to drive a manual she will have to repeat the practical test in a car with manual transmission.

No, she won't be allowed drive a manual, it will be the same as having no licence at all if she's caught. She needs to do the test in a manual, if only for the fact that hiring a car in Europe on holidays could be a major problem if they spot that restriction on her licence as the majority of the small cars that people rent on holidays are manual.

Yes she will be restricted to automatics....I did my test in an automatic and the restriction is on there.
