Not really an option for the vast majority of people who have to use taxis, is it?

With the anger over the bus strikes they could have timed it better to announce this

Taxi rates in ire already seem high....for me to get home on a night out its mile quarter out of town and its 8 or 9 euro..a 4 min drive

Your link is from November 2014

Which regulator gave this the rubber stamp ? Says from today the links I have seen. Does Dublin still have more taxis than new York ?

Got a taxi home last night. The driver informed me the rate now starts at €4 but the clock thingy goes up faster, trip ended up costing me €5.20 instead of the usual €4.85

ah but shure they all have to make a living.

As if a plate on the car entitles them to one.

Rude, ignorant assholes in the main.

I love Hailo though, keeps them on their toes for fear of a 1 Star review.

It's not like Taxi Drivers are rolling in it to be fair, I don't mind paying a few cents or a euro more here and there tbh

True, but I'd rather walk than pay taxi extortionists their exorbitant rates IMHO

Posted this in a thread last year. I know the cost of living over there is cheaper, but Ireland isn't expensive enough to justify the price increase.
I was in Poland last week. A taxi meter starts at something like 1.50 zloty. Thats about 35cent. Here the lowest charge is about €4.50. We get ripped off here, plain and simple.

Also, the argument of "don't get a taxi so" isn't really a good one is it? Sure it applies in the day time for short distances, but at night a taxi is the only option. I live about a 20 minute cycle outside the city centre, things are almost at the point where it would be cheaper for me to get a hostel on a night out and get the dart home the next morning rather than get a taxi on my own.

Quarter of a mile up a massive hill ? Is it the Matterhorn you live on ?
Or maybe drink a pint less for you're fare.......... you may bask in my reflected glory for solving your problems. :)

Well it won't effect me anyway. I can't even afford pair of roller skates so there's no hope of me buying a taxi!

Taxis in Ireland are a fare bit cheaper than in France. When I tell people here that people in Ireland often get a taxi home from the pub, they look at me like I've got two heads.

A 4 minute car trip is what.. a 20 minute walk? Jaysis, I would never pay a taxi for something that I could just do myself.

The French don't spend money or don't have any to spend.

I see they only expect 5-10 thousand to travel to the all French rugby match in London.

To hell with this taxi malarky. I'm off to Lidl to get a pop up tent, when I'm on a night out I'll drop it into the cloak room and when the night is over I'll scour nearby for a nice patch of grass, located near a convenience store and a bus stop,so in the morning I can pack up, grab a coffee and hop on a bus home. In the long run this will save me much money and I always wanted to get closer to mother nature anyway.

Just walk to the nearest Apache Pizza. Place an order for delivery, to your address. Wait 10-15 minutes for the delivery guy to leave, offer him 5 quid on top of the cost of the pizza and he'll drive you!

    Works out great for him.
Works out great for you (you get pizza!)

    Everyone wins.

What if he's on a moped?

What if he's on a moped?

Just squeeze him tight and try not to fall off. Great way to make friends, plus, you get pizza. Win win

When you are wrecked after a 14 hour shift the four minute fiver taxi ride is better than a 20 minute walk

The taxi price would have to double for me to take the poxy nightlink ahead of one

    In the major cities, yes.

In places like Saint Etienne, roughly the same size as Cork, most buses stop running at 8pm.
