Wondering what I can plant that will NOT plant itself between the paving cracks but will stay politely where it is put in a border? Ideally evergreens, border has sun and shade. Ideally nothing over a metre high approx. thanks for any ideas.:)

Most shrubs. You'll be spoilt for choice if you go into a garden center with those requirements.

For evergreen try choysia, rosemary, camellias.

A bit smaller, more like ground cover would eb pachysandra.

More dramatic, big jungle-like leaves would be fatsia, or you could go with something with strappy leaves, like agapanthus or phormiums.
