Just a quick one regarding annual test. I have my test coming up soon. My dilemma is that I have a cow calved and I got no ear tags yet and may not have them in time before test for the calf/ Any info appreciated

    Maybe, hide the calf

How soon is soon? Calf under two weeks would be ok I'd say. Do you know the exact tag it'll be? Cause if it's reg'd and all just tell them the number & that the tags haven't arrived yet & you should be fine.
Hiding the calf would do you absolutely no favours whatsoever. Vet wasn't born yesterday & he/she'll notice a cow with a bag going frantic for a calf.

if you apply on line you'll have them in 2 days

if you have any relationship at all with the vet you'll be ok, if's a dept vet then that's a different story

you are not required to tag the calf until it is 20 days of age

animals under 42 days old needn't be tested

bullsh1t unless you were restricted , bet he charged you as well

We used to even test calves born morning of the test on our farm as we would be selling them as weanlings before the next years TB test. That could have been the logic? Saves you private TB testing and needing two farm calls down the road?

happened me last year the vet will put a brass tag on the calf and when you register the calf with the new tags plus the cow tags they will corrispond with the brass tag that he put on the calf if ya get wat i mean ,,, everything is all bout money money money

That is for the cards after you register them the op doesn't have any tags which could take up to 3 weeks to arrive if he hasn't ordered them yet.

Had the same situation here myself this year, simple solution - just hide the calf.
    Job done
