Wrong sort code

I lodged a cheque for my boss about a month ago. Lodged the cheque with a cashier as I didn't have the card with me.

The other day, Boss notes that wrong sort code is on cheque stub and money has not gone into account.

Q - would the cashier not have noticed the cheque payment was flawed there and then? As in, that the wrong sort code was on the cheque - a sort code that does not wen exist?

    What should I do?

    Hi CKonetheonlyone,

    Thanks for your post.

Cheque's are printed with the sort code for the account holding branch.

It may have been that two branches merged and that the sort code on the cheque book was an old sort code, but the cheque should still have gone into the correct account.

To query this, the account holder will need to contact BOI Direct on 0818365365.

Thanks a million Janette. Unfortunately I think I described it wrong.

My actual problem is that I had to fill out a lodgement slip on the day, because I didn't have my lodgement card. (This cheque was given to us by a Mr X to lodge to my bosses Client account.

Looking back at the piece of the iLODGMENT SLIP that I retained my boss noticed that where her bank details should have appeared, I erroneously entered the wrong sort code.

So, the cheque book would have had MR X's holding account number on it, but the LODGMENT slip would have had the wrong sort code.

Jannette - I am thinking that the tellers would have been alert to the fact that the wrong sort code was on it and notified me there and then?

Is there any chance they would not have and the cheque languishes in limbo - as my boss says the funds have not gone into her account?

    Hi CKonetheonlyone,

Thank you for contacting us here on Boards.ie.

We apologise that this was not noted in the branch at the time of lodgement. If your employer call Bank of Ireland Direct they will be able to place a trace on the cheque and ensure that it is lodged to the account as soon as possible.

    Thanks,
    Elaine
