Today deserves its own thread methinks - it's shaping up to be a really exciting keynote if you're a fan of Microsoft products, or are in the market for some of them!

    What to expect?
    - Some kind of Android to Windows porting tool for developers that'll let them make Windows apps in mere minutes. Possibly also an IOS tool too, although Apple make that possibly a lot more II tricky compared to the open Android system.
    - More HoloLens details, developers are expected to get hands on time with it, and details about development SDKs should be on hand
    - Windows 10 of course! Expecting new insider builds all around, and rumours suggest the phone version will have Snap style multitasking!
    - Xbox One? Will we see more about how Windows 10 will change that console?
    - New form factors - Windows 10 is expected to be highly flexible for different devices, and some brand new experiences have been teased

    Who knows:
New Windows phone hardware - we're expecting it sometime soon, but is this the right time?

    Not expecting:
Surface pro 4 - this is probably going to happen closer to W10 launch, and not expected today, but you never know!

Keynote is due to start in 15 minutes, so lets see what happens!

They got the guy who built that excellent StaffPad app up on stage

Seems like they're going developer heavy up-front. Very cloud focused right now.

Code. Code. Code. Wake me up when the good stuff arrives.

Visual Studio for OSX (and Linux). Big deal for quite a few developers there.

Visual Studio Code, is just an editor and not a full-blown IDE so it's not the full Visual Studio experience, as such, but a good start :)

It looks like it's based on Atom or similar, so it could offer IDE type features. But it's a good start, especially if they're planning those Android/iOS to Windows porting tools, where quite a lot of the devs will be on OSX

Devs will be able to build apps into Office as a platform, and they'll show up on every device's Office app.

Considering that Office is on so many platforms, HTML5 is probably the best choice for add-ons so they work everywhere.

Oooh, notifications, live tiles, and Cortana integration for website developers.

Re-usable Android code will run on Windows 10 phones

Holy ****, you'll be able to build Windows 10 apps using objective-C!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,675 ✭✭✭✭MJohnston

Candy Crush Saga that you've been using on WP for ages was using the same tool that ports ObjC code!

That news has blown my mind. I expected Android, did not expect being able to port ObjC

Project Spartan will officially be called Edge

Some pretty impressive stuff being revealed, they're really making Windows 10 a proper play.

Oh wow, connect your phone to a monitor, keyboard and mouse, and it'll basically turn into a full (Store app only anyway) PC!

This HoloLens robot demo is just superb

All done. Unfortunately no details in the keynote about release dates for Windows 10, or indeed any mentions of new phone hardware. Might be in some of the breakout session.

Have to say, HoloLens is ridiculously cool

If I could have full blown VS on Linux with Scala support I would be a very very happy camper. But VS code at least is a starting point.

The fact that Candy Crush was done on the sly with the iOS to windows compiler is very nice proof that it works. Still get the feeling snap chat wont bother hitting the compile to windows button though..

Props to Satya. I knew he would be good for Micrsoft, but didn't realise he'd be this good. Paying the devs of popular apps to port to WP was always going to be a road to nowhere.
