Hi,I was wondering could anyone have any advice on this.......My friend gets a social welfare payment and as she finds it hard to make ends meet her partner who she does not live with puts 100e from his retirment pension in to her account every week to help her out.The welfare inspector has looked to see her and for her to produce bank statements etc.Is the 100e going to be classed as means ? Ive told her more than likely it will be.she is going to deny she has any bank accounts but i thought welfare have access to peoles bank and credit union account? If anyone has ideas because shes worried sick ....Thanks in advance

Good jebus, denying knowledge of bank accounts is a surefire way of getting her claim suspended. If her partner is giving her 100 per week then she needs to disclose this - its an awful lot of money to someone on a SW payment. I know if I just started getting an extra 100 a week, it would make the difference between us living stretched week to week and being able to afford regular holidays!! If she lies about having a bank account and they eventually catch her out, she's looking at a far more serious penalty than if she just owns up to getting 100 a week gifted to her for no reason (although I find it a bit odd myself that a partner would give his other half 100 a week out of his pension if he isn't even living with her).

    Protip: Don't lie.

Seriously. Don't lie. No one can recommend that to you.

Op, apologies, may have short changed you there with my reply. I just want to say if it's of any help to you, you should know this:

    1. These people typically treat you with respect, and conduct themselves in a fair and sensitive manner. You do not need to worry yourself sick.

    2. No one has access to your bank accounts and credit union information.

    3. It is always sensible to disclose everything you believe relevant. If there is a problem, let's face up to it rather than let it grow.
