No photographs during NCT?

Over in the NCT test centre this morning, sitting in waiting room when an announcement over the PA asked could people refrain from taking photographs or otherwise their car would not be tested. This was then repeated about three times. Never heard this before, is there a reason for it?

Privacy concerns I'd imagine. I'd be pissed off if people were forever snapping me at work too.

Photos of what? Car in the test lane? Don't see the reason why anyone would want to take a photo of that anyway so don't have a problem with it.

Saw the same in Dundalk the other day, a sign stating the same stuck to the glass.

Must be people flat out taking photos for Facebook and the likes; the sign wasn't there last year.

Selfies for snapchat/Facebook in nct is the new thing.

There's CCTV covering the test lanes so from a damage point of view there should be a record there to cover it.

I was upstairs in fonthill nct last year watching a match on my phone while keeping an eye on my car out at the window, a lad on the ground thought I was videoing, went ape sh*t and called me down... Showed him United Arsenal was still 0-0 and he apologised :P:P:P

I'd imagine they wouldn't be willing to actually give you a copy in the event of an issue.

Correct, they legally can only give a copy of footage to the gardai under data protection.

Stupid, maybe they are afraid of being identified outside of the NCT center and being approached and given money to pass certain cars.

Some rules are just stupid if a reason is not given for them, like in Lidl when they ask you to put the trolley a certain way at the tills.

Good luck trying to get it out of them if they are on the defensive in the event of a complaint/claim etc.

^^^ this. I've seen some completely unwarranted engine revving and holding it (no load) for prolonged periods. All that does is break things.

Is it possible to (temporarily) restrict the revs I wonder, easily ?

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Under data protection you can request any video footage of yourself if your willing to pay adim charge.

It's private property so they can make any decision they want. Try standing in the middle of a shopping centre taking pictures and see how long you last.

And it not just the testers who have a right to privacy in the centres, the paying customers have a right to privacy.

You're unlikely to be in the test lane and your car is unlikely to be allowed to submit a claim for footage of itself.
