Lost in Career Direction

    Hiya Folks,

I'm just wondering have any of you any tips or advice for my situation as Im feeling completely lost what to do workwise/careerwise.

To start off I graduated in 2013 with A degree in English and Archaeology. So archaeology wise didnt go anywhere with that because things are so quiet at the last few years.
So with my English part of my degree I got a jobbridge internship 10 months after finishing college working with the local council in the area of working with community groups which was really interesting and fun almost but was getting only €90 a week even though I worked extra hours at evenings because had meetings to go too. So then I got a agency job working in a hospital for 6 months which was properly paid but the work and place was just not for me. So that contract ended in December '14 and since then I had two interviews one where I got down to the final two and I have another coming up in a few weeks but its only a short term thing.
So since being unemployed I looked at type of careers that may suit me like childcare was one I liked but long-term may not suit me due to low wages and also I have a disability that affects my hearing so wear two hearing aids and I have eyesight problems like nightblindness which will progress to tunnel vision eventually. Then I looked at being careers advisor/guidance counsellor and the course director basically told me theres no real work in the area. So I kinda feel like I'm going nowhere too fast anytime soon and I guess Im afraid that if I end up picking a career path now and I turn out to really enjoy it but then due to my eyesight issues Im unable to contininue to do that job, I be back to square one again.
Maybe I never find a job/career suited to me, I just continue to try and find these admin jobs to pay for bills etc..

Have you considered a follow-on course to your degree?

To be blunt, I can't see many career options with English and archaeology. You could probably do with a post-grad diploma or even masters in a more "marketable" area.

Yeah I have thought of doing publishing or social media/communications course but not exactly sure if there's much going on in them areas

If you like kids, have you thought about primary teaching?

I knew a woman who was at Marino doing some sort of qualification that only took a year because she already had an unrelated degree. Might be worth looking into.

If you enjoyed the first internship, how about community development? I don't know if your hearing/vision problems would be an issue but VSI have a lot of overseas long term placements that you could do that would give you a start in this kind of thing as I know a girl who was studying community development and volunteering experience was really important.
