    Howdy Folks,

didnt want to hijack the other thread, my modified (Baratza) starbucks barista grinder has given up and im in urgent need of a replacement. it worked well my coffee machine after the mod but it could have been better so dont want to get the same one again.

I have a Rancillio Silva v4 and i know i should probably be spending more like 300 on the grinder but i just cant justify it at the moment.

so i was thinking either of:
    • Gaggia MDF
    • Isomac Macinino Prof Inox
    • Iberital mc2
    • Quick Mill Semiautomatic

any other suggestions? to be honest the closer to 150 i can get one the better but i also dont want to buy somthing thats going to be worse that my previous one.

    cheers
    SW

I did a lot of research in the €150-200 price range before buying this grinder from Amazon.de for €150 delivered to Ireland.
    http://www.amazon.de/Graef-CM800-Kaffeem%C3%BChle-CM-800/dp/B00CS2DAEG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1430308401&sr=8-2&keywords=graef+kaffeem%C3%BChle

Its the Graef CM800 model I bought. There is a model there called CM70 for €80 but I don't think it is up to the same task and is made of plastic. Graef are German engineered and manufactured so the quality is quite good. I've been using it for 4 months now and am very happy. Only criticism I have is that it is not a stepless grinder (it has 20 steps on it) and sometimes the grind you actually want to produce a 60ml espresso is located somewhere between two of the step settings. I knew that before purchase but now I have it its a slight niggle, its nowhere near enough to make me sell it but at the same time when I do upgrade down the line I'll be upgrading to something like a Mazzer that is stepless. But for now I'm very happy with it and for the price you can't go far wrong.

Anyway read the reviews on Amazon.de, use Google translate on Chrome to get them into english and you'll see that in the main the German purchasers of the Graef CM800 grinder are pretty happy, its gets 4.5 out of 5 from 127 reviews by the Amazon link above.

Up till I found the Graef I was after an Iberital MC2 but it is difficult to find it for €150 online. Happydonkey sell it for £120 which is around €160 these days but they refuse to post to Ireland, north or south. The only way of getting it for that price is have a mate in the UK reship it for you and by the time you've paid two lots of postage it might not be worth your while.

    Hope this helps

Sorry just seeing this now. I have the Graef CM800 about 6 months now, use it 4/5 times a day and am very happy with it. My review of it above still stands, its a very sturdy and well built grinder for €150 or so delivered from amazon.de
