What are these antennas?

Hi folks, I was in Wexford and on most houses I saw 'normal' TV antennas but they also had antennas like the two lower antennas in the photo below.
Are they some sort of interference from the UK reducing setup or just another type of antenna?

They would have been for RTE analogue from Mt. Leinster (band III, vertical polarisation).

If your photo is also a Wexford setup, presumably the UHF aerial pointing the same direction was for TV3 & TG4 (& now Saorview), & the one at the top for UK channels.

There are a surprising amount of those box aerials in the South East.

Every house along the N25 seems to have one and you wouldn't see them at all in the rest of the country

Have seen them in central Mayo but as VHF is no longer not currently used in Ireland they are of little/no use (for TV anyway)

Could possibly re align one for DAB.

I assume it was previously used for RTÉ from Mt. Leinster.

Pre internet days so yes I assumed Mt Leinster --- I had an old mechanical 4 push button tuner bolted to the side of my TV and a switch to choose the internal tuner or the external one .
Nice valve Bush colour TV in a wooden cabinet (with screw holes in the side) !
    Regards
