Auto Crossover (Not a Qashqai)

Evening all, looking for a few opinions if possible.

The auld lad bought a diesel Qashqai last year with the CVT transmission, and long story short, it looks like he's going to be fully refunded due to a litany of issues, mainly to do with the box.

Thing is, he loves the car, but has little faith in a replacement so he's looking at options.

Main requirements are it has to be automatic, as he's had his left knee replaced, and he prefers the height of the Crossover for getting into and out of, again cos of the gimpy knee.

He has had a Yeti before, but it was a bit small for his requirements, and the auto box in the ix35/ Sportage pushes the tax to near €800, so I don't think they'll be runners in his mind. Does anybody have any knowledg/ experience of the Audi Q5?

    Honda CR-V 1.6 diesel160bhp is about €40k and band B tax
    Think it's 9 speed.

Cheers Colm, I'd forgotten about that.

Irony being, my uncle has one. I seem to recall it being much pricier than that when he bought his.

This spec is only out this year though. Think they were only 120bhp manual up to now?

You could well be right on that Colm, I honestly hadn't paid a huge amount of attention to it. Like you said earlier, along with the rest of the country.

Worth pointing out that the auto is 4wd too. You can get a base spec 2wd 120bhp manual for €32k

Yeah, Platinum models across the 3, 6 and CX-5 are well kitted out. CX-5 drives nice too.

I wonder what resale would be like though?

I'd say it will be ok, oldest and cheapest one on carzone is a 2012 with 60k miles, asking €23k and it's an odd blue colour. Platinum probably won't be worth a huge premium in a few years time but the spec would make it easy enough to sell imo. Lets hope the Sky Active engine doesn't end up like Mazda's previous diesel engines.

    That's a bit of a jump from a quashqai,not a crossover anyway!

Drove a Q5 for a while, was a lovely car and I'd heartily recommend one to anyone. Not remotely comparable to a Qashqai though in terms of mechanicals, price and interior.

Test drove a CX-5 which was also very nice, definitely worth a look. My father has a new Mazda 6, so same engine and bits, for almost two years and has had no issues at all.
