FX has ordered 13 episodes of The Comedians, a half-hour sitcom starring Billy Crystal and Josh Gad, the network announced Wednesday.
The Comedians, based on a Swedish series of the same name, will offer an unfiltered behind-the-scenes look at late-night sketch comedy. Crystal stars as a successful veteran comedian who is reluctantly paired with Gad, an edgier up-and-coming star. The show also marks Crystal's first starring TV role since his role as Jodie Dallas on Soap.
Larry Charles, Matt Nix and Ben Wexler will write and executive-produce the project, along with Crystal. Gad will serve as a producer.
"We're incredibly excited about The Comedians and the fact that Billy Crystal will be making his return to series television on FX," FX President of Original Programming Nick Grad said in a statement. "The chemistry between Billy and Josh is amazing, and Larry, Matt, Ben and Billy did a fantastic job of making what is certain to become one of the best comedies on TV."
The Comedians will air on FX in 2015.

watched first ep of this, didn't think it was any good, wasn't funny, mockumentary/fly on wall style, old guy is a bit of a diva, young guy is overly cocky, ho-hum, they seem like they are having fun so, thats whats important isn't it.

Interesting. Josh Gadd singlehandedly ruined 1600 Penn for me, though the show had some problems besides Gadd, so I'm not overly hopeful seeing him back on screen again.

I'll give it a go. For some reason it reads like the Larry Sanders Show for me.

The pair getting stoned in a supermarket in ep.3 is a highlight. It's like that, a dull show with flashes of brilliance.

Doesn't surprise me. I gave up after about 4 episodes. An unfunny comedy. With Billy Crystal. Again.

I just started binge-watching this show this week, and also just read it's been cancelled. I didn't have high hopes after the early reviews and I'm no big Josh Gad fan, but this was pretty funny. After the first few episodes, I knew this was going to be too meta and self-referential for most mainstream audiences, and would struggle to get good ratings, but oh well, I enjoyed it.

meanwhile I knew this was going to be too meta and self-referential.

If meta and self-referential means Billy crystal being up his own ass then that about sums it up for me.

Most famous people are up their own ass, this is not unique to Crystal.
