    Hi there,

I have been quoted for dental implants both in Northern Ireland and the Republic. The price is similar in both. One clinic does the implants under local anaesthetic, and the other "knocks you out"....I assume some form of general anaesthetic.

I was wondering if anybody has had this procedure done and if so:

Was it done under general or local anaethetic?
    How was you recovery?
    Would you recommend them?

    Many thanks.

Most likely the knock you out is some form of sedation and not a full general anesthetic as a ga would involve a general hospital and s significant cost difference for the ga alone...
Implants are great in the same way as tummy tucks, facelift and silicone implants are great so long as they are done by the right person in the right patient....
Do your research and get the treatment done by the guy with the best qualifications and record...

    Os

When choosing a clinician to place implants op choose the one closest to you. You dont want a big trip afterwards and have to travel for the many visits.

Generally you would not get a general anaesthetic, more likely its IV sedation which is different. Recovery will depend on your healing, the siuze of the job and the location in your mouth. Generally it is nothing terrible. Implants are the best way to replace a missing tooth is a lot of cases. It is hard to generalize somebody else experience, and you have the trust the clinician to answer these questions for you. Best of luck

There are many things to think about when choosing Local Anaesthetic versus Sedation (either Conscious Sedation or General Anaesthetic). Cost is only one thing to think about. There are different types of sedation out there, and each carries different pros and cons. Also, depending on your health status you may only be suitable for a specific type. As mentioned, if you do choose sedation over local measures, you will need to be escorted by a family member and have at-home care for 24 hours. Consult with your general dentist and an implant specialist first before making this decision.
