Does anyone have an idea as to what it might have been here for?

It got around a good bit. I think it flew all around Britain yesterday.

Any chance it's here on a demo tour to the Aer Corp to try and encourage them to update their two Casa's ?

The chances of that happening, in my opinion are slim to none. The existing 'fleet' of Casas should be at the very least doubled. The amount of sea/ocean these guys are expected to patrol is vast. Having said that the Casa was a huge step forward, to think this work was previously carried out by two civilian spec King Airs. The crews have to be admired upon reflection of that.

The 295 has about 10 to 15% more range for a given payload than the 235, which I suppose is handy but perhaps not worth the complication of another set of airframe parts and different engines ( PW versus GE* ).

A few more 235s would be excellent.

Perhaps the Corps were having a peak at the internal systems on the Portuguese aircraft?

    * plus the CT7 engine is the basis of the mil-spec T700, which the Air Corps will have in abundance when they finally buy those 100 Apache helicopters as Cessna replacements;)

Considering these aircraft would be used to do maritime patrols they like the current Casa's could be partly funded by the EU.

Like I said it "could" be a demo to entice a purchase, I never said the Aer Corp would actually follow through on it.

The Casa departed this morning and routed east to RAF Northolt.
