When selling stuff on Ebay, is it pretty-much a golden rule to post something using Registered / Signed-for methods? Is there any weight in just obtaining 1 of those free Postal Certificates?

In the event of a claim , Paypal will not recognise your free proof of postage .

Its proof of successful delivery that counts .

The Post Office will give you a receipt but it will only say you posted something not much else. Ideally you would want tracking at least but it does add a fair bit to the cost of selling. I used to give people the option of standard or registered let them decide for themselves as long as you get some sort of proof of postage then you would hope if it does go missing you don't get stung for it! That was a while back now I think they have got a lot stricter when it comes to claims of late.

Theres no golden rule .- If you are selling low-cost items , then it may not be feasible to use expensive postage .
You could add a little extra to cover the cost if you have to take a hit .

If selling in Ireland the postage system is pretty reliable .

Some European countries are not so reliable , but make sure you put the necessary paperwork sticker on package , like aviation security / customs
