It's just something I've been wondering about recently. Are you completely in charge of how your life will turn out or do you leave it up to fate? I know some people who leave their lives completely up to fate and think whatever shall be, shall be and seem quite happy with that. Others I know, think that life is something you take by the horns and think you make your own luck. I suppose I'm just looking for examples of both in your life please :)

I don't believe in fate. You have to cut your own path...

Will be starting a graduate job in September that I didn't apply (applied for a different position) but got offered the interview for the night before because ofa cancellation - that is luck.

Accepting the interview, preparing as hard as I could and having the requirements they were looking for was hard work. You need both in this world, I'll always know I was jammy, but equally I am fairly certain lots of people wouldn't have been able to capitalise on that opportunity (and sure September may reveal that I'm not either).

Fate and pre-destination are nonsense concepts, but we're all subject to random and or unforeseen occurrences.

Overestimate, Overprepare, then go with the flow. Measure twice, saw once.

That's all my well meaning life lessons for today.

The way you're going on, you'd make out that some crazy sh*t like someone is going to break-in to my house, knock me out and steal my laptop is inevitable.

It's like driving: you have be proactive towards making progress and reactive towards any hazard. All while being aware that you can't account for the behavior of other road users or the conditions of the road you're driving on. Some people start on the socio-economic intergalactic hyperspatial express route others start in the ditch. Wherever you start, if you don't get on the road, nothing will happen and life will pass you by.

    Now, don't forget your towel.:)

Nobody is the master of their own destiny. At best we're middle management of our own destiny.

Simple in my eyes.. If you want something to happen, get off your arse and do it.. Doesent matter how difficult, fate wont make it happen. You gotta get up and do what you can :)

But sure what is fate - but a word for something that happened.
Since the future is constantly shifting, fate is an illusion.

if everyone was completely in charge of their own destiny , their would be no stories like that of karen buckley

Mixture of both of course - can't control everything, including your personality/interests changing as time moves on.

I genuinely believe that life is what you make of it and that hard work and diligence create opportunities for people. That said, I have been ridiculously lucky in many respects with things just falling into my lap without much work on my part. So luck is a not-inconsiderable factor either.

I think most people can push themselves to be more proactive and productive in their lives. I certainly try to be!
